GREAT IDEAS GALLEY GUIDE

Compiled with the help of many cruising folk and written by experienced sailor Susan Bett, the book contains 120 pages to include an A-Z of comprehensive information on food preparation and provisioning, as well as great recipe ideas when cooking in a confined galley, rough weather or using canned food.

Over 60 user friendly recipes from bread made with sea water or beer, to more adventurous meals when in calm anchorages such as sweet chilli mud crab or carpet bag steak stuffed with fresh oysters.

This is how this unique “cruiser’s bible” came about:

A dozen yachts sought shelter from a weeklong storm off an isolated island on the Australian coast. A potentially dangerous situation, the unplanned adventure united sailors from all walks of life in a unique community spirit as they pooled dwindling supplies and fresh water.

A leg of lamb was cooked on an engine manifold
Damper was cooked over an open fire
Fish – hunted and speared, was smoked to perfection on the beach.

Possibly to ensure not being caught short again, discussion turned to varying methods of preserving and provisioning food for longterm cruising. We had all looked, and not found, any publication with this kind of advice.

A well researched and very informative book, the galley guide is printed on waterproof paper. It is spiral bound and takes up little space in a galley or kitchen.

It will inspire an adventurous spirit in those who crave the ultimate sea change, the survival and challenging search for self sufficiency at sea.
Or perhaps for some, just a fun recipe book with good ideas for simple but innovative cooking on land.
